HSC 109th Med BN
(Area Support Medical Battalion)

Unit: HSC, 109th Med BN (ASMB)
Formed: 1 October 1995
Garrisoned: Iowa City Armory, Iowa City, IA.

Our task as a Headquarters Support Company (HSC) is to provide Eschelon I and II medical support to units located in our assigned area of operations. This means that we provide treatment, ground evacuation, preventative medicine, laboratory and dental support with highly mobile medical teams to whatever units in the corps area need support.

HSC 109th MED (ASMB) was formerly HHD 109th MED.

Sections and Shops

Administrative - Our unit clerks do the paperwork that is so important to the smooth running of a large organization that has to communicate with an even larger organization. Their hard work keeps our paychecks on time, our student loans paid off and our insurance up to date.

Ambulance - The medics of ambulance platoon are the wounded soldier's crucial first contact with the Army Health Service System. When self-aid and buddy aid aren't enough, the ambulance medics are there to get you through.

Dental - The dental section has all sorts of amazing pieces of equipment to take out to the field so that you can dread going to the dentist just like you do at home.

Food Service - One of the highlights of a soldier's day is mealtime. And it's the food service section that adds fresh variety to a menu that would otherwise consist entirely of MREs (Meals Ready to Eat).

Headquarters - The personnel directly involved in supporting the battalion staff functions of the company.

Jump - The medics of jump platoon, whether in the ambulances or in the treatment ten, are often the wounded soldier's crucial first contact with the Army Health Service System. When self-aid and buddy aid aren't enough, these medics are there to get you through.

Motor Pool - It's unbelievable how much stuff a medical company has to truck around, even if it's just going to the field for a drill weekend. The grease guns and wrenches of the mechanics in the motor pool help make sure we can get it all there and back.

Supply - The supply section provides equipment, parts and maintenance support for just about everything a unit needs from uniforms to radios to tents. We can have Christmas in July when the supply section gets us our "toys."

Treatment - Treatment picks up where jump platoon leaves off. Placed back inn the company area, base treatment provides a place to rest and heal, if only for a little while.
