Risk Assessment

Identify mission risks and implement controls. Assess final mission risk level after controls are implemented. Approve or reject the missionn. High risk operations may require coordination with the next higher level of command.

Factors that contribute to risk:

Preparatory Time - Optimum, Adequate or Minimal
Guidance - FRAGO vs. OPORD vs. OPLAN/LOI
Training Event - Support/Nontactical/Garrison vs. Day Tactical vs. Night Tactical
Task Organization - OPCON vs Attached vs. Organic
Soldier Preparation - Optimum, Adequate, Minimal
Environmental Preparation - nonacclimated, partially acclimated, acclimated
Soldier Experience - Highly qualified, MOS qualified, untrained
Task - Complex vs. Routine vs. Simple
Weather - Clear/Dry vs. Fog/Humid/Drizzle vs. Rain/Snow/Ice/Dust
Temperature - less than 31/more than 80 vs. 32-59 degrees vs. 60-79 degrees
Road Conditions - Improved, Secondary, Trail/Cross Country
Terrain - Mountain/Desert/Jungle vs. Hills vs. Flat/Rolling
System - Wheel, Track or Crew Served
% Personnel - 0-65% vs. 66-79% vs. 80-100%
Severity of Effects of an Incident Catastrophic - Death or permanent injury, total equipment loss, or major property damage.
Critical - Serious injury, major equipment damage, or significant property damage.
Moderate - Minor injury or illness, minor equipment damage, or minor property damage.
Negligible - First aid or minor medical treatment, minor impairment to equipment or system.

Probability an Incident Will Occur Frequent - Continuous
Likely - Often
Occasional - Sometimes
Seldom - Remote
Unlikely - Improbable
Risk and Impact on Mission if Mishap Occurs Extremely High - Complete loss of ability to accomplish the mission
High - Will not accomplish all parts of the mission, or will not be accomplished to standard
Medium - Will have reduced mission capability
Low - Little or no impact on mission accomplishment
