109th Medical Battalion Command Philosophy

LTC Mike Rogalla

  • It's all about people... Find the best and tell them why the Iowa Army National Guard is where they should be today and tomorrow.

  • Keep your eye on the prize... Medical units are deployable worldwide -- achievable through complete planning and practiced skills.

  • Stay in your lane... Use battle focus and make the most of limited training time.

  • Look at the future in front of you... Develop your soldiers into leaders.

  • If it's broke, those lives will never be saved... Preventive maintenance will get you there, keep you there, and bring them back.

  • Express yourself... Identify problems, propose solutions, and let the chain of command know.

  • Consensus is the absence of leadership... If you're in charge, take the information at hand, use the guidance given to you, and make a decision.

  • It's in the book... Tasks, condition, and standards -- use them to attain excellence.

  • Respect youself and the others around you... The rank and position the Army bestows upon you and all soldiers have true significance and meaning -- give them their due.

  • You're not in this alone... Families and fellow soldiers make the tough times bearable -- attend to their needs.
